SILLAGE: How a 48-Hour Film Became Our Biggest Adventure Yet

SILLAGE: How a 48-Hour Film Became Our Biggest Adventure Yet

There is something magical about making a film when you only have 48 hours.

No endless rewrites. No second-guessing. No months of planning. Just an idea, a group of passionate artists, and a clock that never stops ticking.

This year, our team took on what became our biggest and most ambitious project yet: SILLAGE, a fantasy short film created for the 2026 Louisville 48 Hour Film Project.

The word sillage (pronounced see-yazh) comes from the world of perfumery. It describes the invisible trail a fragrance leaves behind after someone has walked away. We loved that idea because memories work the same way. Long after a moment has passed, something as simple as a scent can bring us back to a person, a place, or a feeling.

What if a perfume could do more than unlock a memory?

What if it could transport you through time?

That question became the heart of our film.

A Story About More Than Time Travel

SILLAGE follows a close-knit group of gothic friends celebrating a birthday when an unexpected guest arrives. Dressed entirely in soft pink, she couldn't be more different from the rest of the group. They immediately judge her, assuming she doesn't belong.

Later that evening, they discover an antique perfume bottle sealed in wax.

Inside is a simple riddle.

"Break the seal.
Breathe me near.
What was lost
Will soon appear..."

One breath later...

Everything changes.

The group awakens hundreds of years in the past, standing outside a magnificent Victorian castle where, for the first time in their lives, they become the outsiders.

Suddenly, they are the ones being judged.

The fish have become the fish out of water.

The Message Behind the Mystery

While SILLAGE is filled with fantasy, mystery, and time travel, its message is incredibly simple.

We all know what it feels like not to belong.

Whether it's because of the way we dress, where we come from, who we love, what we believe, or simply because we're different, every one of us has experienced being the outsider.

The film asks one question:

How quickly do we judge someone before we know their story?

Our characters discover that the very person they laughed at may be the one who holds the key to bringing them home.

Sometimes life has a funny way of placing us in someone else's shoes.

Building an Entire World in Two Days

Creating SILLAGE in only forty-eight hours was one of the biggest creative challenges we've ever taken on.

We transformed a modern birthday party into a mysterious fantasy adventure.

We discovered a breathtaking castle.

We found a crystal perfume bottle that instantly became the centerpiece of the story.

We designed handwritten riddles, Victorian costumes, gothic wardrobes, magical props, and visual effects—all within one weekend.

Watching our cast step into another century for the first time was one of those unforgettable filmmaking moments that reminds you why you make movies in the first place.

A Film About Community

One of the greatest gifts of filmmaking is that no one creates a movie alone.

Every costume was adjusted by hand.

Every prop was carefully placed.

Every camera movement required trust.

Every performance depended on another actor standing just off camera.

From our incredible cast to our dedicated crew, everyone brought something unique to this project. Some had worked with us before, while others were joining us for the very first time. By the end of the weekend, we weren't just coworkers—we had become a family telling one story together.

That spirit is what makes the 48 Hour Film Project so special.

It's not just about making a movie.

It's about creating something none of us could have created alone.

Why We Tell Stories

As the founder of KULLI Atelier Films, I've always believed that stories should leave people feeling something long after the credits roll.

Whether through jewelry, fragrance, photography, or cinema, my work has always explored one central idea:

How do we connect with one another?

SILLAGE became another way to ask that question.

Perhaps the greatest journeys aren't measured by how far we travel, but by how much we grow.

Sometimes all it takes is one scent.

One decision.

One stranger.

One moment of empathy.

Come Experience SILLAGE

We're incredibly proud to share our biggest and most ambitious 48 Hour Film Project yet.

Whether you come for the mystery, the fantasy, the costumes, or simply to support independent filmmaking, we hope you'll leave thinking about the invisible trails we all leave behind—and how kindness has a way of following us wherever we go.

Because one day...

we might all become the fish out of water.
